Connections between the worlds of theatre, mesmerism, and spiritualism are well-known. While séances were performed publicly and privately by both believers and charlatans, mediums worldwide were dedicated to proving the existence of spirits- at any cost. This virtual exhibition compiles several of the tools and products of séances in the context of their use as vehicles for the suspension of disbelief.
NOTE: Research for this exhibit has been loosely conducted from several books and general searches, but is NOT a part of an academic research project.
